Toybox EP Nanette Miles and series director Bruce Carter were key contributors to Sherwood and helped shape a story that would resonate with a young audience and explore contemporary themes of displacement, justice and empowerment. Carter explains how a series based on an old English mythology came to be made in New Zealand.
“The story of Robin Hood still connects with audiences because of its universal themes. The incredibly talented animation team at Toybox reimagined a future world of a flooded London with a uniquely Kiwi take. We see and do things differently in this part of the world and that difference shows in the stories we tell and is becoming increasingly valued by studios and producers all over the world.”

Nanette Miles adds “We have been working with international studios and clients for a number of years. That has created opportunities for artists and designers here in NZ to tell stories that reach global audiences. We have a number of exciting projects in the pipeline and we’re excited to fly the flag for New Zealand on a global stage.”

The series streamed on YouTube Premium with a cast that included Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale), Anya Chalotra (The Witcher), Rachel House (Thor Ragnarok), Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf), Jamie Chung (The Gifted), Adetokumboh M’Cormack (Lost) Aneurin Barnard and Neneh Conteh.
