Disney's Super Kitties (Design)
Toybox designed some of the hero characters and sets for Disney Junior’s latest animation series Super Kitties and it’s great to now see them on screen!
Look development is the process of unlocking the style and design of characters and worlds for animated properties. We begin with lots of ideas and iterations. As the character takes shape we refine them from black and white sketches to fully rendered 2D designs.
A show is usually defined by its lead characters, so that’s where we started — meet Ginny, Sparks, Buddy and Bitsy. Followed by our rascal villains – Lab Rat, Cat Burglar and Zsa-Zsa the Cockatoo.
For our lead kitty Ginny we modelled her in 3D, fur and all, and animated a super cute character test. If we could show it we would!
As well as characters, Toybox designed various sets and environments for Disney Junior’s latest animation series Super Kitties.
When developing the cat cafe and city streets our designs had to be bright and colourful to appeal to our young audience, be able to adapt to any camera angle (near or far), be fun and playful, and all while capturing as many cat-like qualities as possible to bring this immersive theme-based world to life.
A lot of fun was had! And a lot of cat videos were watched.
