Kei konei koe. You are here.
'Kei konei koe. You are here' was designed and delivered by Toybox for the Auckland War Memorial Museum and sits at the heart of the Museum’s new suite of galleries: Tamaki Herenga Waka: Stories of Auckland.
The immersive experience features 8 projectors, a 360 degree wraparound screen and a fully interactive table.
The narrative is told through a mix of 2D and 3D animation, archive footage, photography and an incredible soundscape.
The Toybox project team included designers, animators, technologists, production crew and researchers.
An amazing project that tells a small part of Tamaki Makaurau’s rich and unique story.
The interactive installation offers visitors to the museum an immersive introduction to Tāmaki Makaurau, which expands on and provides context for the wider themes and stories explored throughout the Museum’s more traditional galleries.
The experience comprises a central oval plinth topped with a tactile topographical relief map onto which animated story sequences are projected on to a suspended 7 metre diameter 360° cyclorama.

There are six projectors in the ceiling project immersive, large scale video content and, using advanced Touchdesigner techniques, sync together the projection mapping and surround sound audio to create a multi-perspective, user-activated experience. The complexities of projection mapping onto these large curved surfaces involved advanced geometry to ensure the content was displayed seamlessly on all parts of the ring & central table.
